Comparison of the Anti-Plaque Effect of Miswak (Salvadora Persica) and Dandasa (Juglan Regia) on gingival health

Background: Anti-bacterial effect of Miswak on microorganism has already been proven in previous researches. The Dandasa is used by most women Saudi Arabia, India and Pakistan as a toothbrush for cleaning the teeth. Aim: This study was done comparison between improving gingival health, both anti-plaque action absence plaque directly proportional to health. Methods: A prospective cohort carried out at Department Periodontology, Dr.Ishrat-ul-Ebad Khan Institute Oral Health Sciences, Karachi period 6 months. Total 90 patients fulfilling inclusion criteria were included into two Groups. In group-A habitual user miswak taken group-B dandasa taken. Plaque score index made zero before start observation conducting ultrasonic scaling. Results: Group 57.8% participants using once day 42.2% twice day. group B 44.4% 44.2% 55.6% Mean post-gingival 1.95±0.52 1.08±0.28 B. post 1.97±0.69 1.15±0.36. results portrayed significant discrepancy pre index. conclusion also depicted prominent variability pre-post-plaque Both indices showed that better control compare Conclusion: Gingival Index (GI) (PI) scores prominently less compared group.
